Discover the Secret Spice of Master Chefs: Pure Ground Cardamom Powder. Elevate Your Culinary Creations

Cardamom Ground is renowned for its distinctive spicy-sweet flavor and a richly aromatic fragrance. It holds a prominent place in the culinary traditions of India, and is also a celebrated ingredient in numerous South Asian and Middle Eastern dishes.

Cardamom has a complex flavor that is citrusy, minty, spicy, and herbal all at once, making it highly valued in cooking for its aroma and flavor. In addition to its culinary uses, cardamom has been used in traditional medicine for its potential digestive and anti-inflammatory properties.

  1. Baking: It’s a common addition to spice cakes, cookies, and pastries, imparting a warm, sweet flavor.

  2. Coffee and Tea: Ground cardamom can be added to coffee or tea leaves to create a fragrant drink. See our Masala Chai Here

  3. Spice Blends: It’s a key ingredient in some spice mixes.

  4. Desserts: Ground cardamom is used to flavor custards, puddings, and rice dishes.

  5. Savory Dishes: It can be used in marinades for meats and vegetables, in stews, soups, and even in rice dishes like biryani or pilaf to add a layer of flavor complexity.

  6. Sauces and Dressings: A pinch of ground cardamom can add a unique twist to sweet or savory sauces and dressings.

  7. Fruit Dishes: It pairs exceptionally well with citrus fruits, apples, and pears, whether in compotes, jams, or fresh salads.

  8. Bread and Doughs: Ground cardamom is often incorporated into bread doughs.

When using ground cardamom, it's important to start with a small amount and adjust to taste, as its flavour is potent and can become overwhelming if overused.

Cardamom ground powder is a spice made from the ground seeds of various plants in the genera Elettaria and Amomum in the family Zingiberaceae. Both genera are native to the Indian subcontinent and Indonesia. The seeds are used as a spice both in whole form and in ground form.

Q: How does the flavor intensity differ between whole green cardamom and ground cardamom?

A: Whole green cardamom releases its flavor slowly since the seeds are encased in the pod, resulting in a subtle taste. Ground cardamom provides a more immediate and intense flavor as the seeds are already exposed.

Q: Which has a longer shelf life: whole green cardamom or ground cardamom?

A: Whole green cardamom typically has a longer shelf life because the pod protects the seeds from oxidation, preserving their essential oils and flavor for a longer period. Ground cardamom tends to lose its potency more quickly.

Q: When would you use whole cardamom pods versus ground cardamom in cooking?

A: Whole cardamom pods are ideal for infusing dishes like rice, curries, and stews, where they can be removed before serving. Ground cardamom is better when the spice needs to be fully integrated into the dish, such as in baking or spice rubs.

Q: What are the preparation time considerations for using whole vs. ground cardamom?

A: Whole cardamom requires extra preparation time to remove the seeds from the pods and grind them if necessary, while ground cardamom is more convenient and ready to use.

Q: Does the texture of the dish change when using whole vs. ground cardamom?

A: Whole cardamom pods can add an unwanted texture if left in the dish, while ground cardamom blends in smoothly without affecting the texture.

Q: Is there an economic benefit to using one form of cardamom over the other?

A: Ground cardamom might be pricier due to additional processing, but it can also be more cost-effective since a smaller quantity is often sufficient to impart the desired flavor, compared to whole pods.

Fresh spices

These spices are lovely and fresh and the cardamom is excellent. The citrus notes in cardamom when added to pumpkin soup makes it extra tasty. Of course it goes into curries but I’m also adding it to my baking for a change this winter. Ginger loaf with cardamom (instead of cloves) is great.

Good spices...great service!

The spices that I had ordered were, upon on arrival, the same high-quality I have come to expect from Leena Spices.

However once my order was shipped, it took a while before I actually received the spices. The problem was at the courier's end, not Leena Spices.

Happily, Leena Spices jumped in and took responsibility for resolving the issue. After multiple emails and phone calls on their part, my order was eventually delivered. I was kept informed of their progress, and was impressed by their friendly and helpful efforts.

Full credit to Leena Spices for the great customer service, as well as great spices!
